The footage, now part of the ongoing investigation, appears to show the suspect running with a pistol in hand shortly after gunfire erupted inside the crowded Chick-fil-A restaurant in Union Township on Saturday night.
According to authorities, the shooting unfolded at around 8.40 pm, triggering panic among patrons as multiple shots rang out. Diners scrambled for cover while chaos gripped the busy establishment.
Police responding to the scene found seven people with gunshot wounds. One person was pronounced dead at the spot, while six others were rushed to nearby hospitals with injuries that officials said were not life-threatening.
Investigators believe the attack was not random, though a motive has not yet been disclosed. The suspect remains at large, and a manhunt is underway.
The incident marks the 100th mass shooting recorded in the US this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
In a post on X, New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill said the shooting does not appear to be a random act of violence and assured that there is no immediate ongoing threat to the general public.
Union Township Mayor Patricia Guerra-Frazier described the shooting as a devastating blow to the community.
“What should have been an ordinary evening has left families grieving and our township in shock,” she said, calling for unity in the face of violence.
