In a post on Truth Social, Trump blasted Iran’s approach. “The Iranian negotiators are very different and ‘strange.’ They are ‘begging’ us to make a deal, which they should be doing since they have been militarily obliterated, with zero chance of a comeback, and yet they publicly state that they are only ‘looking at our proposal.’ WRONG!!!” he wrote.
“They better get serious soon, before it is too late, because once that happens, there is NO TURNING BACK, and it won’t be pretty! President DJT,” he added.
Indirect talks between the United States and Iran are under way, with messages being passed through Pakistan, while Turkey and Egypt are also stepping in to support mediation efforts, Pakistan’s foreign minister said. The United States has shared a 15-point proposal with Iran via Pakistan aimed at opening a path toward a ceasefire.
INSIDE WASHINGTON’S 15-POINT PROPOSAL
The proposed 15-point plan lays out sweeping conditions to reshape Iran’s military and nuclear posture. It includes strict curbs on Tehran’s nuclear programme, a halt to support for proxy groups, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Washington is also pushing for a month-long ceasefire to create space for negotiations. However, given the scale of the demands and Iran’s constant resistance to similar frameworks, Tehran is unlikely to accept the proposal in its current form.
Other elements of the plan reportedly include dismantling Iran’s missile capabilities and related military infrastructure. In return, the US is said to be offering partial sanctions relief, permission for a UN-monitored civilian nuclear programme — with a fuel facility located outside Iran — and potential economic engagement to support Iran’s struggling economy.
IRAN SAYS NO TALKS WITH US
Iran has admitted that proposals are being reviewed but has firmly ruled out direct negotiations with Washington. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the ongoing exchange of messages through intermediaries should not be mistaken for formal talks. “The exchange of messages through mediators does not mean negotiation with the US,” he said, adding, “There are no talks with the US.”
“US is sending messages through different mediators,” he said, while reiterating that Iran has no intention to hold talks with Washington at this stage.
Araghchi also pushed back on US claims of progress, saying Washington has failed to meet its objectives in the conflict. “The US has failed in its war goals, including a quick victory and regime change,” he said.
IRAN’S 5 CONDITIONS FOR ENDING WAR
After rejecting the US proposal, Iran has reportedly put forward its own counterproposal outlining five key conditions for ending the war.
These include a complete halt to acts of “aggression,” guarantees that the conflict will not restart, payment of war damages and reparations, an end to fighting across all fronts involving allied resistance groups, and recognition of Iranian sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.
