Department of Commerce recruitment 2026: The Department of Commerce, Government of India has invited applications for engagement of Young Professionals, Associates, Consultants and Senior Consultants across multiple streams on a contractual basis.Applications are to be submitted online through the official portal of the Department of Commerce during specified cycles in May, August, November and February, with no requirement for hard copy submission.Application and recruitment timeline
Streams and eligibility criteriaApplications are open across Economics, Legal, General Management and Data Science streams.• For Economics, candidates must hold a Masters in Economics preferably with International Trade.• Legal applicants require LLM or LLB with Post Graduate Diploma in any legal subject.• General Management requires MBA or equivalent from NIRF ranked institutions up to 100 or Masters in Public Policy, International Affairs or International Trade.• Data Science candidates should possess B.Tech, BE, MCA or Masters in Data Science, Data Analytics or Computational Mathematics.Age limit and experience requirementsThe upper age limit is 35 years for Young Professionals, 45 years for Associates, 50 years for Consultants and 65 years for Senior Consultants. Minimum experience required is one year for Young Professional, three years for Associate, eight years for Consultant and fifteen years or more for Senior Consultant.Vacancies across streams
Selection process and application cycleShortlisting will be limited to three times the number of vacancies in each stream and position. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for interview rounds by the Department of Commerce. Applications are to be submitted through the Department of Commerce recruitment portal with no hard copy required.Terms of engagement and working conditionsMonthly remuneration will be as per Department guidelines subject to statutory deductions, with no additional allowances or facilities. Working hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM on working days, with possible extended duties on exigencies. One and a half days leave per month is admissible with prior approval, with no carry forward of unutilised leave.Selected consultants must comply with Official Secrets Act 1923 and maintain confidentiality of all government information. Engagement may be terminated with 30 days notice or immediately in cases of non-performance or misconduct. No hard copy applications are required for submission processes.
