Pakistan PM thanks Trump for extending ceasefire with Iran, hopes for ‘comprehensive peace deal’
Pakistan had urged an extension of the truce due to uncertainty surrounding the second round of talks, which are still expected to be held later this week. Pakistan Information Minister Attaullah Tarar had said on Tuesday (April 21, 2026) that the ceasefire was scheduled to end at 4:50 a.m. PST on April 22, 2026.
Following Mr. Trump’s announcement extending the ceasefire, Prime Minister Sharif thanked the U.S. President in a post on X.
Mr. Sharif said, “On my personal behalf and on behalf of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, I sincerely thank President Trump for graciously accepting our request to extend the ceasefire to allow ongoing diplomatic efforts to take their course.” The Pakistan prime minister said that with the “trust and confidence reposed in (it), Pakistan shall continue its earnest efforts for a negotiated settlement of the conflict”.
