The cops fired multiple non-lethal rounds at the man before eventually deploying a K9 unit, CBS News reported. The police dog bit the suspect, giving the officers a chance to overpower him. A video showing the man struggling to keep the dog from biting him has since gone viral on social media.
More than a dozen armed cops were at the scene. One of them fired at least two shots, all purportedly non-lethal, in an attempt to subdue the suspect. Despite this, the alleged stabber managed to remain on his feet. He was seen holding a 6-foot wooden stick, which he had allegedly used in attacking the parking staff.
Moments later, the K9 was released and it. The video shows the suspect hitting the dog with his stick several times as he tried to defend himself. However, the dog succeeded in biting the man and latching onto his arm. The suspect was promptly taken into custody by the officers.
He has been identified as 20-year-old Lathapoun Keovongsa, according to Fox San Diego. The parking attendant sustained two lacerations on his head in the attack by the young man, the outlet reported.
He was transported to a hospital and his injuries were later ruled to be non-life-threatening, per the police. The parking attendant was sitting on an electrical box when the attack took place.
Keovongsa has been charged with resisting arrest, vandalism, assault with a deadly weapon, among other offences, Fox San Diego said in its report. His bail has been set at USD 50,000 (approximately Rs 46.7 lakh).
